Throughout my time at Beyondly, I’ve worked closely with my line manager to set regular development goals. This has helped ensure I’m building the skills needed for my career aspirations. Alongside this, I’ve taken a proactive approach to my development by completing professional qualifications, both through my apprenticeship (AAT) and through self-study in my own time (CIMA). This has required strong time management and commitment but has allowed me to continuously expand my knowledge and apply it within my role.
Attention to detail - Working on both invoicing and management accounts has strengthened my attention to detail, especially when checking figures and ensuring accuracy across reports.
Communication – I explain financial information and invoicing calculations to non-finance colleagues and customers.
Continuous Improvement – I always try to continuously improve processes in invoicing and reporting, including using our accounting software and automation to increase efficiency and reduce manual tasks.
Shadowing my line manager in budgeting discussions, attending business planning meetings, and reviewing financial commentary has started to build my understanding of the differing needs across departments. This exposure is helping me develop how I communicate financial information more clearly and appropriately.
I would say it’s important to believe in yourself and be proactive with your development. Take ownership of your career, set clear goals, and always look for opportunities to expand your knowledge through training. Don’t be afraid to put yourself forward for new opportunities.
