Throughout my time at Beyondly I have had clear development goals to support the direction of my role. I have been given the space to identify new opportunities and have my input into how my skills can best support the growth of the business. I am lucky that I have had exposure to most areas of the business in my time here which has really helped grow my skillset and understanding about a full range of business. I enjoyed my role as Operations Manager as that did a full oversight of different areas but I like I have come back full circle to my first passion of WEEE!
- Effective Communication – my time here has really embedded how good communication is actually everything! From sharing information with the team to dealing with complaints, auditing producers or suppliers, or being audited ourselves, being clear, honest and positive in communications is so important for building trust and good relationships.
- Forward looking – one thing I love about working here is that we are always seeking a better way for our producers and us, be that in being more efficient, offering savings to customers, improved customer service or our environmental or social impact. This does present challenges at times but having headline goals for where we want to be and thinking big is extremely motivating.
- Don’t chase perfection – when I started at Beyondly it was safe to say I was a bit of a perfectionist. Accepting that a ‘good’ job delivers the most efficient outcome was a big step for me!
Involvement in a wide number of areas in the business built my confidence and competence and at various points I have been mentored by people in the business which helped to develop my skills. My fastest and most important learnings have probably come from when things aren’t going well or it has felt challenging. These have been great moments to take learnings from and instigate change.
Be vocal in volunteering to take on tasks and challenges, knowing that you are in a supportive environment. Never be afraid of asking for help or guidance and ask lots of questions of people across different departments to build your knowledge of business. Keep a record of your achievements to reflect on and help identify what experiences might be missing from your wheelhouse and push yourself out of your comfort zone where you can.
