I’ve had a great career at Beyondly, I joined in 2021 after leaving primary school teaching as a business development coordinator, at this point the sales team was relatively small and I really enjoyed many aspects of the role- meeting with customers, learning about our services, hitting personal targets and delivering prospect webinars. After a while I became a line manager and started to grow the team with the growth of the business. It was an exciting time, and I took on additional responsibilities with the wider team, my favourite being leading the international task force.
After a while I became solutions manager and learnt new skills including being involved in target setting across different service areas, tracking our progress and success and segmenting the solutions team to represent different service areas of the business.
After completing the Remarkable Leadership Course I identified and proposed a new role in the business which focused on Learning and Development – this is something that is important to me and was so excited to take this opportunity. I have since completed CIPD level 5 in L&D which I am enjoying implementing into development of the Beyondly team.
- Interpersonal skills have allowed me to interact and build good relationships with a variety of people. I use these skills a lot in my new role.
- Communicating effectively has always been one of my strengths and has been particularly important in all my roles. Speaking and listening are both essential skills to ensure people understand and are understood which helps build trust and respect.
- Organisational skills are essential when tasks need to be prioritised and completed, ensuring deadlines are met. It is also important that when you have ongoing ‘longer’ tasks (that are easy to avoid or lose momentum) you can break them down into more manageable pieces/chunks!
Essentially, it’s about ‘having a go’! Don’t be afraid to ask questions- we have so many experts in the business and some great managers to learn from. Challenge old ways of doing things and always seek feedback. It’s good to reflect, and our one-to-one review system provides a good opportunity for this. I always believe that if something interests you or sparks passion, then learn more about it!
Speak with the relevant people and ensure they know what interests you, and what you want to get involved in. Ask lots of questions to ensure you completely understand the requirements for progression/development. Continue to grow your knowledge and look for training and awards opportunities that could help you and the business. Set yourself challenging but achievable goals and always share these with others, as often two (or more) brains are better than one! If you don’t have one already, seek out a mentor that inspires you. Don’t be afraid to have a go at new things, as you never know, in our everchanging business there just might be a new opportunity that arises for you!
