The results are in! Beyondly work alongside local children’s charity SELFA, to launch WEEE recycling project in Skipton, North Yorkshire

Charity SELFA and Beyondly's local Recycling Project - the results are in!

Posted: 28 February 2022

Collectively, across just under a 2-week period, SELFA charity in Skipton gathered an amazing total of 190 kilos of electrical waste ahead of the busy Christmas period.

All of this waste will either be recycled or re-used to ensure a 100% diversion from landfill thanks to our recycling partner EWRG (Electrical Waste Recycling Group) who have recycled all the electricals collected at their Huddersfield facility.

The Children at SEFLA greatly supported this successful project resulting in successfully diverting waste electricals from landfill as well as educating the local community on the possibilities and benefits of recycling.

We would like to again thank EWRG and SELFA for working with us on this impactful project, our loyal member Radnor Hills for their raffle prize contribution and everyone who supported the project by recycling their waste!

As we begin the busiest shopping season of the year, we are excited to work alongside Electrical Waste Recycling Group (EWRG), our loyal packaging member, Radnor Hills and local children’s charity SELFA, to carry out a 2-week WEEE (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) recycling project in Skipton, North Yorkshire. The project aims to encourage people to responsibly dispose of their waste electricals, in conjunction with Black Friday and in preparation for the Christmas holidays.

SELFA is a children’s charity, who work with professionals to provide a wide range of free activities designed to give children and young people an opportunity to be happy, believe in themselves and have hope for the future. These include holiday workshops, specialist clubs, day trips and residentials. SELFA also run an OFSTED registered holiday club each school holiday with staff who are specially trained to support children, including those with complex needs and multiple disabilities.

Beyondly often carry out fundraising activities for SELFA, to help ensure they can continue their wonderful work.

A huge amount of waste is produced over the festive period and in light of the ongoing electrical waste recycling challenges in the UK, with the majority of waste electrical goods still ending up in landfill and the fact that per person, the UK creates the second highest levels of electronic waste in the world, we want to educate the upcoming generation from an early age on the importance of WEEE recycling, as well as their families, whilst helping to boost WEEE recycling levels in the area, both initially and hopefully going forward long-term.

From the 29 November, for two weeks, EWRG will be providing a container to SELFA’s site at what was previously Ings School on Broughton Road in Skipton. The children will be handing out flyers around Skipton over the next few weeks, giving the public the opportunity to bring in all their old electricals for recycling, and in return will be provided with a raffle ticket (per item of WEEE) giving them the chance to win amazing prizes from Beyondly and supplier of spring and flavoured waters, Radnor Hills, who are proud to operate a Zero to Landfill manufacturing site.

This is our third project, following two successful WEEE recycling projects organised earlier in the year, starting with a project with local primary schools followed by a project on Broughton Hall Estate. The brilliant success of these projects led us to expand to work with new companies and charities in the local area.

EWRG, who specialise in the recycling of electrical waste recycling are our trusted recycling partner who we work with to collect, treat, and recycle our customers’ waste electricals from across the UK; we are thrilled to have their support and be working with them once again on this exciting project in our local town of Skipton.
