What is Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM)?

RAM is a UK framework that evaluates how easily packaging can be collected, sorted and reprocessed, by assigning a Green, Amber, or Red rating. It was developed by PackUK to help assess the recyclability of the household and public bin packaging that is placed on the UK market, underpinning fee modulation within the packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme.

Our sustainable packaging solutions are aimed at helping producers with long-established packaging choices to trend toward packaging that can be recycled more easily, helping to support a circular packaging economy and reduce fees.

Who does RAM impact?

Your business will need to comply with the Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM) if:

  • It places household packaging or public bin packaging on the UK market, and

  • It is responsible for more than 50 tonnes of packaging per year, and

  • It has an annual turnover of £2 million+

Does your business supply packaging to the EU?

All businesses placing packaging on the EU market, including UK exporters and businesses selling into Northern Ireland, e-commerce platforms, distributors, and brand owners will need to prepare for the significant implications PPWR, or the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, will bring over the coming years.

PPWR comes into effect from August 2026 and will be implemented in phases through to 2040, setting significant requirements across packaging design, use, and labelling, and mandating EPR schemes across all 27 EU member states.

Beyondly’s expert team are here to help you understand and navigate your responsibilities in the EU; from PPWR readiness assessments, to packaging screening and analysis. Preparing for PPWR as the legislation evolves is crucial for businesses to ensure a smooth transition, mitigate EPR-related costs, and avoid non-compliance.
