Producer Waste Compliance

Packaging EPR Compliance

Beyondly offers an efficient, tailored approach to meeting your packaging compliance obligations.

As your dedicated compliance partner, we act as a seamless extension of your team: embedding packaging regulations into your operations.

There are different turnover and packaging-tonnage thresholds that determine whether a business is obligated as a small or large producer under the EPR packaging regulations. Beyondly can support you in understanding your legal obligations and achieving your packaging compliance goals.

Explore Packaging Compliance

Packaging

What is Packaging EPR?

  • Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (pEPR) is a reform of the old UK Packaging Waste Regulations. It is a new piece of legislation which introduces greater responsibility onto producers for supplying packaging material on the market.
  • The Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Regulations 2024 require businesses that are obligated to report data on the packaging they handle and supply onto the UK market.
  • EPR also requires producers to pay the full net costs of the collection, sorting, recycling, and disposal of household packaging.

WEEE Compliance

As a B Corp–accredited, leading WEEE compliance scheme, we provide a simple, effective way to meet your WEEE obligations.

Our trusted team of experts makes compliance easy and dependable. If you place more than 5 tonnes of EEE on the UK market, you’re classed as a large producer and must register with an environmental compliance scheme to meet your legal requirements.

Beyondly supports obligated producers in meeting their legal responsibilities under the WEEE Regulations, providing expert guidance and compliance solutions to ensure full regulatory fulfilment.

What are the WEEE Regulations?

  • The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations (2013) became law in the UK on 1 January 2014, replacing the WEEE Regulations 2006.
  • The WEEE Regulations bring into UK law provisions of the EU WEEE Directive which was introduced with the aim of diverting electrical waste from landfill, placing the onus on producers to be responsible for the electrical items they sell when they become waste.
  • This responsibility now extends to Online Marketplaces: websites or mobile applications that connect multiple non-UK suppliers with UK consumers.

Batteries Compliance

Beyondly provide a simple, hassle-free way to meet your waste battery obligations.

The manufacturer or importer that first places batteries on the UK market including batteries contained within products is considered the ‘producer’ and is responsible for compliance if the business operates in the UK. This also applies to overseas companies registered with Companies House.

By working in partnership with our Batteries Compliance Scheme (BCS), we ensure you meet every requirement of the regulations.

Battery

What are the Waste Battery and Accumulator Regulations?

  • The Waste Battery and Accumulator Regulations 2009 set out the requirements for waste battery collection, treatment, recycling, and disposal for all battery types.
  • The regulations affect producers, battery distributors (retailers), waste battery collectors, recyclers, and exporters.
  • This legislation aims to improve the environmental performance of batteries and accumulators, and all those involved in their life cycle.

International Compliance

At Beyondly, we help you understand, manage, and meet your global Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations, so you can grow confidently across markets without the complexity.

Environmental legislation is different in every country, and with the implementation of EPR existing worldwide, achieving compliance as a global organisation is challenging. And if you're selling products overseas, you may be legally required to comply with environmental regulations in each country.

If your business is being impacted by the hurdles of international compliance, or you’re looking to get to grips with the regulations before your business goes global, Beyondly are here to help.

What is International EPR Compliance?

  • International EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) compliance refers to the legal obligation placed on companies to manage the lifecycle of their products particularly packaging, electronics, batteries, and textiles once those products become waste.
  • Regulations vary significantly by country, making international compliance complex and critical.
  • Failing to comply can result in legal penalties, product bans, or reputational damage. Beyondly helps businesses navigate these regulations and remain compliant as they expand into global markets.

Explore Data Management

computer

Why is good-quality data important?

  • The data you gather will come from across your supply chain and needs to be brought together detailing all the packaging component data ready for submission.
  • If you are a large producer under EPR, the data you report will have a direct impact on the fees you are required to pay.
  • It is important that the data you report meets the regulatory requirement of ‘as accurate as reasonably possible’ to ensure that you are incurring the right fees.

Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT)

Beyondly supports businesses in understanding their tax liabilities and the wider impact of the tax on their operations, including financial, data, and reporting obligations.

The rules to determine your Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) liability can be intricate, involving detailed criteria for qualifying products, annual rate adjustments, recycled content thresholds, and frequent updates to HMRC guidance.

However, Beyondly can help you navigate PPT with total confidence. With our support, staying compliant with the plastic packaging tax is simple and seamless.

  • Since then, the UK Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) has applied to manufacturers and importers producing or bringing more than 10 tonnes of plastic packaging into the UK annually.
  • Businesses are exempt from paying the tax if they manufacture or import less than 10 tonnes of plastic packaging in a 12-month period.

Carbon & Energy Compliance

Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)

Beyondly can support you in finding a new way to save and reduce your energy usage.

A UK organisation is obligated to comply with an ESOS phase if on the qualification date it either employs 250 or more people, has an annual turnover in excess of £44m and an annual balance sheet total in excess of £38m, or is an overseas company with a UK registered establishment which has 250 or more UK employees.

There are two main routes to compliance with ESOS, and Beyondly provide full compliance management for both routes.

Explore ESOS

Lightbulb (Light Yellow)

What is ESOS?

  • The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory energy assessment for large UK organisations, which requires them to undertake energy audits and report this back to the Environment Agency.
  • ESOS runs on a four-year cycle, at the end of which, a full assessment must be carried out by a Lead Assessor and the relevant information submitted to the Environment Agency.
  • Following the ESOS scheme presents a real opportunity for businesses to improve energy and fuel efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and subsequently, reap financial benefits.

Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR)

Our Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) service can help you reduce your environmental impact and make a difference to climate change.

SECR applies to quoted companies of any size. Limited liability partnerships and UK incorporated unquoted companies must also comply with the legislation if they meet two or more of the qualification criteria.

Beyondly provides comprehensive compliance management to help you meet your obligations while bringing the benefits of carbon and energy reporting to your business.

Explore SECR

World In Hands

What is SECR?

  • Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) was introduced in 2019 as legislation to replace the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Scheme.
  • It was implemented to improve visibility of carbon reporting and encourage energy efficiency in businesses, providing both economic and environmental benefits, supporting companies to reduce their costs and improve efficiencies.
  • Businesses successfully meeting SECR obligations all feed into the collective effort to decarbonise the UK power system, driving the change required to reduce effects of climate change.

What is PPWR?

  • The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation was implemented in February 2025 and comes into effect from August 2026. Major changes will be rolled out in phases through to 2040.
  • PPWR will drive considerable changes across packaging, reducing packaging waste, boosting recycling, and promoting reuse across the EU.
  • PPWR establishes harmonised requirements across the packaging life cycle, including environmental sustainability and labelling, across all 27 EU member states.
  • This regulation aims to make all packaging on the EU market recyclable by 2030, safely increase the use of recycled plastics, and decrease the use of virgin materials.
